In 2005 the LOVE.check game was adapted for children and teenagers in the Netherlands. Here prevention is also of prime importance. Too many couples still practice unsafe sex and thereby run a great risk in contracting the HIV virus.
The ethnic patterns in the Netherlands are very diversified. Sundry versions of LOVE.check are indicated. We started the first version for people of African and Carib ancestry. For this group a new picture story has been assembled by a team of experts. We have consulted with Amsterdam youths and their comments and suggestions have been incorporated in the definitive picture story. Subjects such as unsafe sex, assertive reactions if one does not want to make love, myths, contraceptives, what living means to a child with HIV+, how to ask for help and other ?questions and/or dilemma's are extensively covered.
The photographs were shot in Amsterdam by Adriaan Backer and the game designed by Daniëlle Schaffelaars. Both were also responsible for the ?Southern Africa game. For years Adriaan has recorded the dramatic consequences of AIDS in South Africa, Indonesia, Moldavia, Kazakhstan and Asia.
