LOVE.check
Thailand was developed in 2005 by the WEB.foundation by order
of PLAN Nederland. The scenario was written together with
PATH, a Global Health catalyst situated in Bangkok. LOVE.check
Thailand was printed in a first issue of 15.000, complete
with an English and Thai manual for the instructors. The pictures
were shot by Thai photographer Ponsak Tangtiwaja and the design
was by Pathinee Pongpai.
Most of this printing was consigned the the schools as it
dovetailed with the sex education training programs for teachers.
Through this the teachers are better prepared and can use
the game in their curricula. Part of the remainder will be
utilized by Unicef, Siam Care, Children's Right Foundation
and PLAN Thailand. This version is also suitable for surrounding
countries. Research is under way to translate the game to
other languages.
The
Thai version of the game was introduced in July 2005 at the
National Aids Conference in Bangkok. A WEB.foundation team
member, Gemma Pagano, delivered a lecture and workshop at
that Conference, titled: "The Dutch approach to youth
and sexual Education".
The PLAN Thailand delegate, Program Development Officer Mr.
Panus Rattakitvijun Na Nakorn and Gemma, officially presented
the first LOVE.check game to the Permanent Secretary Dr. Kasam
Worawan Na Ayuthaya of the Ministry of Education.
PATH drummed up hundreds of volunteer youths from all over
Thailand to distribute LOVE.check flyers. They
wore T-shirts with various LOVE.check illustrations and a
Thai quote: 'Our generation, Our decision, Our responsibility',
and assembled in groups to play the game, resulting in intense
conversations about living with HIV/AIDS, unsafe practices,
assertiveness, puberty, unwanted pregnancies and
SOA/AIDS.The game was deemed efficacious by prominent people
and NGO's.
LOVE.check Thailand was financed by PLAN Nederland.
