The interactive game contains a selection of 27 cards (of 35).

Awards
Sappi, one of the worlds largest paper supliers, organises a yearly contest known as ´Ideas that matter´. In this competition the WEB.Foundation and its designer Tina Lenz, won a grant with LOVE.check in 2002, sufficient to develop and produce all printed material for Zambia.

Progress report
In November 2002 the creator of LOVE.check and anthropologist Dr. Thera Rasing visited Zambia for ten days. They took along several LOVE.check games assembled in Amsterdam
Dr. Rasing was able to examine if the game supplied the right type of information and what the reaction would be from children and adults.
In Mufulira, a town in the Copperbelt five primary schools and a clinic were visited. With the co-operation of citizens and nuns from the local Catholic parish it became a successful meeting.
It was gratifying to see that the game gave a great deal of pleasure, with lots of shouting and applauding when the right cards were found with much urgency to win. After the fun of the game they discussed the photographs with the children. Many of them were directly affected as they had lost parents, brothers, sisters or other family members to AIDS and many were orphans. In one of the classrooms only 5 of the 43 children still had both parents.
The children showed us how they understood and made clear through playlets and poem recitals that AIDS was the killer. They were all of one mind that the game helps making such a difficult subject like HIV/AIDS discussable.
To conclude this research trip the team visited the Dutch Embassy and the Department of Education. This investigation resulted in developing a new scenario. In February 2003 Thera Rasing and designer Tina Lenz returned to Mufulira where Tina took the pictures for the Zambian game.
Thera Rasing's research notes are available from the WEB.Foundation H.Q.

Poem
by a 12 year old Zambian girl

Mothers without children
Children without parents
Husbands without wives
Aunts without nieces
Uncles without nephews

Where are they?
Are they on holiday?

Is it a long holiday?
A holiday without a limit?
They are no more dying at a tender age

What a misery
AIDS, AIDS, it’s AIDS

It is claiming everybody
It is a vampire of this millennium
AIDS, AIDS

It has no cure
It has no size

It has no selectivity
It has no distinction
AIDS, AIDS

Please let us refrain from sex
Thank you
